Fifth Protected Site Under Construction
Work has begun on the enclosure of the fifth protected site as part of the Save Our Bush-Stone Curlew project. The project has been funded by a grant from Powercor and the Mid Loddon CMN and Landcare network. Around 4.5 hectares will be enclosed to make the site safe from foxes and other predators like feral cats or dogs. Once this work is completed, nest boxes and cameras will help ascertain whether the site remains vermin free and eventually whether curlews and other native wildlife have a safe habitat in which to thrive again. Longer term, a soft release pen will be constructed in one of the protected areas to try to build up numbers. This project hopes to ensure the survival of one of our most endearing and eccentric birds.
